General Summary:

  • Lead the accounting close process
  • Ensure compliance with all taxing jurisdictions (income and sales tax) and appropriate accounting, as necessary
  • Assist with the External Audit, Quarter Reviews and Sarbanes-Oxley Reviews
  • Provide all departments with timely financial information
  • Ensure appropriate reporting for FCC purposes
  • Review and approve all payments made through the Adesso system
  • Coordinate the Budgeting Process
  • Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable on a day to day basis

Salary: $90,000 to $120,000 – based on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise A/P Coordinator, A/R Coordinator and Accountant
  • Responsible for the professional development of direct reports
  • Conduct performance reviews annually or as required, give ongoing feedback
  • Interact with the Company’s auditors, financial institutions and various internal and external customers and suppliers
    The following responsibilities are achieved by the individual with the assistance of reporting staff
  • Compile/analyze/produce accounting data in a timely and accurate manner
  • Lead the accounting close process including planning, communication of requirements, review of journal entries and ensure appropriate reconciliations are prepared as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all taxing jurisdictions including reporting, installments and remittances and oversee the appropriate accounting, as necessary, for income and excise taxes.
  • Maintain the accounting records in accordance with Canadian and US GAAP / IFRS
  • Ensure internal controls are in place and operational for compliance with Company objectives and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Ensure integrity of the sub-systems (A/R, A/P, fixed assets, etc.) by reviewing and reconciling sub-systems to GL and investigating discrepancies, identifying problems and recommending solutions to problems
  • Ensure appropriate reporting of cash transactions, cash forecast etc for FCC purposes and monitor cash balances accordingly.
  • Review and approve all payments made through the Adesso system and ensure accurate reporting there in
  • Coordinate the budgeting process
  • Design and implement new reports to satisfy user requirements
  • Develop and streamline existing processes in financial accounting
  • Staff training and development to meet individual and departmental objectives
  • Assistance in updating documentation and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Lead or assist on special projects as required
  • Assist Financial Accountant and Financial Analyst when the workload requires
  • Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records
  • Participate in and/or lead Non Conformance Investigations
  • Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s)
  • Initiate, and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls
  • Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits

Requirements:

  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; with the ability to work with diverse personality types
  • Ability to work in fast based environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility in hours required to fulfill demands, particularly during month end and audit periods
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly Excel
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Strong financial accounting skills with experience or exposure to cost accounting
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and to manage several projects simultaneously
    Designated accountant (preferably CA)
  • University degree (preferably in commerce)
  • 3-4 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 2 to 3 years people management experience
  • Previous audit experience would be beneficial
  • Ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies in the accounting records
  • Strong analytical skills is a must
  • Strong Excel skills is a must
  • Minimum 2 years of SAP hands on experience is a must
