The Candidate Who Got Away

The Challenge
Our client, a GTA West based manufacturing company was seeking an SAP Specialist to manage their upcoming roll out of their SAP system. The search began at a time of year that is typically difficult because most people are focused on many personal focuses approaching the holidays in December. After a few weeks and an exhaustive search, we identified a few candidates who possessed both the skills and the attitude our client was looking for and they finally found the one they wanted to hire.

At the same time there were several other conflicting priorities taking place and some internal changes which impacted how quickly decisions were made. The offer was seriously delayed. This, as a result, caused them to lose the candidate to another opportunity.
This created urgency with both the client and with Career Connections Canada Inc., as the role was to identify the best talent to take our client through an SAP implementation which no one at the client company had expertise in. It was to begin immediately.
Our Method:
Starting from scratch, we began a fresh search. Knowing that the job needed to be filled quickly, we needed to ensure that we found the right candidate who would thrive in a team-oriented environment that was fast-paced, high energy, and would have the SAP knowledge and practical expertise that would guide the client through their implementation and assist in training the team to manage the system on an ongoing basis. The candidate needed to be able to work independently and as part of a team and they needed to be able to gain the trust and compliance of people who did not report to them. As well they would have to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Our Distinction:
Our team took this challenge head on. Utilizing multiple search strategies, as well as internal referrals and direct recruiting. We identified a candidate who had all the key components and was excited about the role and the client. By working very closely with our client and having a deep understanding of their challenges and requirements we were able to find a successful candidate who would be able to easily handle the current requirements of the role but would be able to grow and thereby contribute greatly to the client’s success moving forward.
